Compressing HD recordings I have now shelved.
account:
- A 2-hour recording is about 8-10GB (720p, 50fps, 5.1 sound, 2.0 sound, teletext).
- 10GB Handbrake turn tormented by around 5-6GB.
- spared 4GB disk space cost about 16CT (2TB you get already for 80 €).
- My notebook needs for such action about 8 hours at about 50W (Core2Duo Macbook). Power of 0.4 kWh or 10ct.
Apart from wear and my I consume time which is only half the disk space again to power. Gain: about 6ct. Even if it cost each of these actions only 5 minutes, that's just not worth the time.
